The AAT route, and what it opens
AAT runs in levels and most people study while working, often funded by an employer. It is a qualification built around doing the work rather than theorising about it, which is why employers treat it as practical evidence rather than a credential.
Completing it gives exemptions towards ACCA and CIMA. That matters: the technician route and the chartered route are the same road, and plenty of people walk the whole thing without ever taking a finance degree.
Where these jobs are and what they are called
Titles wander: assistant accountant, finance officer, accounts assistant, bookkeeper, purchase ledger, credit controller, payroll manager. Read the duties rather than the title, because seniority and pay vary far more than the names suggest.
Payroll and credit control are worth calling out. Both are specialisms in their own right, both are consistently in demand, and both pay better at the senior end than their reputation implies.
